Tell us about yourself.

Hi! My name is Lydia and I am passionate about helping children reach their fullest potential through music. As a Board-Certified Music Therapist, I use music-based interventions to support children in non-musical goal areas, such as communication, social/emotional, behavior, academic skills and more!

How did you get interested in Music Therapy?

I have always loved music and helping people in hands-on ways. When I found out about the music therapy field as a junior in high school, I knew that it was the perfect fit for me!

Describe a typical session.

In music therapy sessions, I use interventions such as singing, instrument play, music listening, and movement to music. All sessions are individualized according to each child’s unique strengths, goals, and preferences.

What is your favorite activity to do in your sessions?

I love using songwriting activities to target self-expression, making choices, communication, social skills, and more! Whether it’s silly or serious, it is always so much fun to write songs with children and see their creativity and personality shine.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is definitely seeing the joy on children’s faces when they really love an activity Whether it’s a particular instrument, a musical game, or a favorite song, finding what “clicks” for all of my children is the best feeling!

Tell us one random fact about yourself.

When I’m driving from session to session, I am always listening to podcasts. I love telling people about my favorites and am always open to recommendations!
