St. Patrick’s Day Craft

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

St. Patrick’s Day is a day to celebrate the history and culture of Ireland. Many traditions and images we associate with St. Patrick’s Day dates back to folktales told over many years. Some include wearing green, leprechauns, rainbows, and pots of gold!

In honor of this holiday, we have created a printable activity page to decorate a rainbow and pot of gold.

Supplies Needed:

  • Printable
  • Paint in every color of the rainbow
  • Cotton swabs

Steps:

Print out the page, then have your child use the cotton swabs to dot paint in each white circle to complete the picture.

Why use cotton swabs?

Not only is using a cotton swab a fun way to mix up painting, it also benefits various fine motor and visual motor skills– one being their pincer grasp. A pincer grasp allows a child to pick up small objects with their thumb and forefinger, and in this case, a cotton swab! There are many other daily activities that require a pincer grasp, including:

  • Buttoning
  • Zipping
  • Tying shoes
  • Hold a pencil
  • Using scissors
  • Hold feeding utensils

So while your child is creating some fun artwork to celebrate the holiday, they are also working on refining their pincer grasp which will help with many other daily activities!
