In this introductory level course, participants will learn to identify executive functioning skills and the impact they have on children in the classroom setting. Participants will learn strategies to strengthen executive functioning skills and tools to aid in classroom independence and management to help them reach their full potential. This multidisciplinary course will be co-presented by our occupational therapist and speech and language pathologist. This session will cover the basics of sensory processing and emotional regulation as they relate to school based children. Presenters will discuss the neurological basis behind sensory strategies and interventions commonly used in schools. In this three day course, participants will learn the basics of behavior and apply that knowledge to create and implement an effective functional behavior assessment (FBA) and behavior intervention plan (BIP). Day one will focus on recognizing and understanding interfering behavior and identifying function based strategies. Day two’s focus will be on conducting an effective functional behavior assessment (FBA). We will take a deep dive into the purpose of a FBA, qualifying factors, data collection, interviews (including the FAST), and identify replacements for interfering behaviors. Day three will finish out our series by learning all aspects of a behavior intervention plan (BIP). A few highlights include effective antecedent and responsive strategies, data collection, and analysis of on-going data.
