Playing Instruments and Spatial Awareness

Did you know that playing musical instruments is one of the few activities that fully engages both sides of your brain? This means that playing everything from an egg shaker to a trumpet can help your child’s brain make new connections, which can help them in other areas of their life!

Click HERE for a video of our music therapist sharing about how playing simple percussion instruments can help to support your child’s coordination and spatial awareness!

In addition to helping to develop spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination, playing instruments can:

  • Improve reading and memory skills
  • Strengthen fine motor skills
  • Increase executive functioning
  • Strengthen gross motor skills
  • Decrease stress, anxiety, and depression
  • Increase confidence and positive self-image
  • And more!
