Morning Routines With Music

Good Morning! It’s time to talk about morning routines.

We all know that it can be difficult to get up and going in the morning, especially if you aren’t a morning person. Therefore, as a child completing everything in your morning routine before school can be tricky! Music can be a fun and engaging way to make remembering and following morning routines more enjoyable.

Watch the video at the end of this post to hear an original “Morning Routine Song” written by our Music Therapist.

How it works:

This song will walk you through a 4-step morning routine, but can be easily modified for as many steps as you need. Additionally, a visual schedule coupled with this song can support your child in independently identifying each step.

Here are the lyrics!

The sun’s coming up –

It’s a beautiful day!

We jump out of bed,

Time to….

(Insert the first step of your routine)!

(First step of your routine)..let’s see what comes next!

The sun’s coming up –

It’s a beautiful day!

We jump out of bed,

Time to….

(Insert second step of your routine)!

(First and second step of your routine)..let’s see what comes next!

Keep repeating the verses and adding each step of your child’s rountine until they are ALL DONE!

The purpose of this song:

By the end of the song, you will be reviewing each step in order. The goal of using songs like this is to help motivate your child and support them in gaining independence! Whether that is identifying the next step when they see the visual schedule, reciting all of the steps of their routine at the end of the song, or independently completing each step while they sing. Hopefully, this song brings everyone a little more joy in the mornings.
