The Keene’s Story

The decision to move to Brussels, Belgium only a year after marriage was made to allow Kyle to chase an opportunity at Ernst & Young, in addition to being able to travel around Europe. During this time, it was Sarah’s adventure providing Occupational Therapy at an international school and starting a small private practice that contributed to the biggest impact on their lives. Kyle and Sarah loved being outside of their comfort zone, both personally and professionally, but were dumbfounded by how undeveloped and unknown pediatric occupational therapy was in Europe.

By the end of their assignment in Belgium, Kyle and Sarah wanted to continue experiencing the international lifestyle, but longed to start making a shift towards a life of greater impact and control. Kyle was accepted into INSEAD, a world-renowned business school in Singapore, where he spent a year studying entrepreneurship and social impact. Sarah continued to conduct due diligence in the Southeast Asia region and was again shocked by the lack of availability and attitude towards occupational therapy.

After endless contemplation, Kyle and Sarah decided to combine their skills and initiate change and help advocate for children who needed occupational therapy anywhere in the world. They concluded that launching a pilot clinic in Nashville would strengthen the community, raise awareness of the vitality of therapy, and help families live fulfilling lives in their hometown.

It is their hope that starting Project Play Therapy would allow the Keene family to establish roots locally while facilitating an extension of reach both regionally and globally in any way possible. The decision of a lifetime all of a sudden became obvious. And so the journey began!

Feel free to ask them about any initiatives locally or abroad. They always love community input!
