We Love Our Village Community Spotlight: Project LIT
Supporting and Showcasing Organizations in our Community
In honor of Read Across America Month, our Project Play Therapy staff decided to give back. We had the opportunity to learn about and support an incredible local organization called Project LIT. Together, we were able to donate over 25 books to Project LIT this past month.
What is Project LIT?
Project LIT is “ a grassroots literacy movement. It empowers readers and leaders in schools and communities across the country.” It was created in 2016 by a local Nashville English teacher, Jarred Amato, and his high school students. Project LIT’s mission is to eliminate book deserts and promote a love for reading in the community. They believe in the power of reading and its ability to bring people together to transform lives. Project LIT focuses on empowering readers, advocating for literacy policies and practices, reading and discussing books that make students feel seen and valued, and amplifying voices and stories of students and educators of color.
