Back to School Vocabulary

Welcome back to school students and teachers of all ages! Today we have created an easy to use back-to-school vocabulary activity for your students!

Vocabulary acquisition is the process in which we learn new words. It is important for building
expressive language for young children, which impacts the ability for them to expresses themselves in
various settings.

Vocabulary acquisition also has an effect on a child’s reading, writing, and listening skills. The ability to follow directions and express ideas may also be impacted if age-appropriate vocabulary is not yet learned.

Activity Ideas:

  • Print out vocabulary pictures and label them in the classroom. Here is one we created for easy use: School Vocabulary Printable
  • Discuss the meaning of the words and what they are used for while modeling sounds they make and movements
  • Describe what it looks like, then prompt your child to name the object you are describing
  • Watch videos that include targeted vocabulary words and label them
